African Leadership Development Program 2017 Application Close Tuesday 27 June

The African Think Tank Inc is delighted to announce that applications for the African Leadership Development Program 2017 are now open.

The African Leadership Development Program (ALDP) provides an outstanding opportunity for aspiring African Australian leaders to develop their communication, professional and networking skills so they can confidently contribute to the local community.

This highly interactive and engaging program provides:

  • Inspiring guest speakers and community leaders who will share their insights and experiences
  • An opportunity to create valuable networks
  • One-on-one mentoring
  • Group community projects

The ALDP’s unique focus on leadership development, discussions with guest speakers, interactive activities and networking opportunities will provide a rich development experience with long-lasting benefits and outcomes for participants and the community.

Young emerging leaders and women are encouraged to apply

Topics covered during the program include:

  • The principles of leadership
  • Ethics
  • Dealing with conflict
  • The role of influencing decision makers in media and communications
  • Communicating with authenticity and for impact
  • Building and maintaining effective networks
  • Negotiation skills
  • Community leadership: community organisations, capacity building and volunteers

Mentor Program

Leadership Victoria will match each participant with a Mentor. Participants will be expected to arrange monthly meetings with their mentor between program sessions

When?

The program will consist of ten seminars held on Saturdays from July to November, from 9.30am—2.30pm: July 22, Aug 5, 12, 19 Sept 2, 9, 23 Oct 21, 28, Nov 18. A graduation ceremony will be held 25 November.

Where?

JJ Clark Room, Level 1, Old Treasury Building, 20 Spring Street, Melbourne

Who can apply? 

  • Applicants from all African backgrounds who have shown their commitment to community development 
  • Young emerging leaders and women are encouraged to apply 
  • The program is delivered in English

Shortlisted applicants will be invited to an interview with a selection panel and will be required to provide a letter of support from a community member.

How much does it cost?

There are no fees for this program. ALDP is funded by the Victorian Government’s Office of Multicultural Affairs and Social Cohesion.
